Welcome to the GLOBE!
Who are we?
The GLOBE is a Living Learning Community for students in the Schreyer Honors College. We all live together on campus in Simmons Hall and host many events throughout the year to foster connections between Globies. We work to promote discussion on global developments and events, while also providing people with a fun community.
Our goals:
- Forster respect and awareness for the world and its diverse people
- Contribute to international progress through the development of a network for future collaborations
- Build an inclusive community to embrace different mindsets and encourage personal/academic growth
To attain these goals, which are further outlined in our mission statement, members participate in unique activities such as member-hosted discussions, guest professor talks, international events, and more.
Why join the GLOBE?
If you’re an incoming first year, then you might have wondered how you’re going to meet people at such a big school. Often, first-year students in typical dorm buildings don’t even know their neighbors, but in the GLOBE, you’re able to meet the people you are living with right away. We host events frequently, so students have the opportunity to get to know everyone better and form meaningful connections.
The GLOBE is a very comfortable living space. We have a main lounge with couches and a TV (great for movie nights!), where people frequently hang out and chat during the day. We also have a kitchen that allows people to cook their own meals, bake treats, and recreate some favorite meals from home. The floor also has side lounges with whiteboards, tables, and couches, which provides a nice space for group collaboration and studying.
People are the essence of the GLOBE; it is the community and friendships that Globies often credit as the best part of their GLOBE experience:
“Simply put, it’s fun. Joining the GLOBE has been genuinely my best experience on campus. In my couple of years here, I have gotten to interact with and grow close to the community to a point where I couldn’t imagine college without it.”
“One of the main reasons I applied to the Schreyer Honors College was to be a part of a smaller community within Penn State, and I was thrilled to discover that the GLOBE provided an even smaller and more tight-knit space to meet other students, participate in fun events, and build a community. If you’re thinking about applying – definitely go for it! There’s never a dull moment in the GLOBE!”
“The GLOBE provided me with a home away from home. As an out-of-stater, I didn’t know anyone when I first arrived. Because of the GLOBE, I didn’t feel isolated in the way that many first-year students often do. I’ve come to truly enjoy my time on the floor and have met some incredible and interesting people, which is why I’ve decided to stay on the floor in hopes that I could provide other first-years with a similar experience.”
